SUMMARY:Uzima Wednesday Walks
DESCRIPTION:With the weather warming up\, we are excited to announce new ways to bring together our Black-identifying staff in an informal\, leisurely\, and healthy way to increase social connections through our Uzima (Wellness) Wednesday Walks\, starting this Wednesday\, May 8th\, and every Wednesday through May 29th\, 2024. \nThese 30-40-minute walks through our campus\, led by members of the Black Leadership Table\, are an excellent way for Black-identifying staff to stay active\, connect with nature\, and reap the mental health benefits of the great outdoors. \nMeet-up location: We will meet in front of Tim Horton’s in the Davis Building at 12:10 p.m. and head out. \nTo participate: \n\nChoose the right gear and stay hydrated: comfortable shoes are a must\, as are sunscreen\, sunglasses\, a light jacket\, and a water bottle.\nWarm up for our route: prepare your muscles for the walk. Gentle stretches or marching in place can prevent injury. Our walks are along the well-maintained paths on campus\, so you can enjoy the scenery.\nRegister: Uzima Wednesday Walks – Registration Form (office.com) here for walks on May 8\, 15\, 22\, and 29.\n\nThis initiative is part of the Black at UTM priorities that foster and embed a culture of belonging\, support community engagement\, dialogue and participation\, and increase Black visibility and impact at UTM.
