Black on the Shelf 2026

The UTM Library and Black at UTM are proud to present Black on the Shelf 2026, a collection of books to showcase Black excellence. This collection includes books recommended by Black-identifying students, staff and faculty with a focus on the exploration of Black literature in the stories we tell about love, life, and the experiences of being Black in the world around us. This year will feature a book reading from Matthew R. Morris.
This event is open to all students, staff, faculty, librarians, instructors, and caretakers.
MATTHEW R. MORRIS is an educator and writer based out of Toronto. He is the author of the instant national best seller,“Black Boys Like Me: Confrontations with Race, Identity, and Belonging” which was nominated for the Heritage Toronto Book Award, longlisted for the Toronto Book Awards, an Apple Books Best Books of 2024, and CBC Books Best Canadian Nonfiction 2024.
