Join Hart House and the UTM EDIO for the Laugh, Cry, Cringe Storytelling Series titled, Claim the Mic: Women, Hip Hop & Creative Courage with Francesca D’Amico-Cuthbert. Hip Hop culture has always been more than artistic practice. It is storytelling, identity, resistance, and the power of voice and representation. In this Laugh, Cry, Cringe session, join Hip Hop historian Dr. Francesca D’Amico-Cuthbert for a conversation that explores how women in Hip Hop have challenged expectations, claimed space in the industry, and used music to tell stories that shape the world in and beyond Hip Hop culture. Through storytelling and open dialogue, we will unpack how artists have turned their lived experience into creative and political expression to ask: what does courage look like in art? Whether you love Hip Hop, care about culture, or are simply curious about the stories behind the music, this session invites you to listen, reflect, and join the conversation.

Laugh, Cry, Cringe is a movement to create braver spaces where personal stories, current events, and cultural narratives come alive through the power of storytelling. This series aims to unmask misconceptions and foster understanding among diverse groups and communities. Through the power of storytelling, participants can release tensions, build community, practice wellness, and find inspiration to take positive action in their daily lives.
