Announcements

As the University of Toronto Mississauga community begins a new academic year, the Centre for Black Excellence and Belonging (CBEB) is pleased to extend a warm welcome to returning and new students. We take this opportunity to remind our Black student community that the CBEB student space located in KN 127 remains available for use and bookings.

Established in June 2024, CBEB is an identity-affirming space dedicated to fostering connection, collaboration, and belonging among Black students, staff, faculty, instructors, librarians, and caretakers at UTM. The space is designed to support the holistic well-being of Black communities and to celebrate the diversity of lived experiences and intersectional identities within the African diaspora.

CBEB is managed by Black at UTM and leased by the Department of Management. The space may be used for individual reflection, group meetings, community gatherings, and culturally informed programming.

Purpose of the Space

  • ATo provide a safe and welcoming environment for Black students
  • ATo serve as a hub for community-building and mentorship
  • ATo honour and uplift Black knowledge, experiences, and identities

This initiative aligns with the commitments outlined in the Scarborough Charter, the UTM Black Flourishing Framework, and the University of Toronto’s Anti-Black Racism Taskforce, which advocate for the creation of Black-inclusive spaces that promote visibility, impact, and belonging.
